Harrisburg, PA – Over the past several months the Republican Party has built momentum across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As highlighted by an NBC 10 Philadelphia news report, Democrats may be “losing their edge” in the Keystone State.
Per the report from NBC 10,
“So far this year, Republicans are outpacing Democrats in attracting party-switchers – with about 34,000 voters switching affiliation to Republican (from either Democrat or something else) and about 12,000 switching to Democrat, according to numbers from the Department of State.”
These numbers are reflected in the Philadelphia County party-switchers as well with about 2,800 Democrats & Independents switching to Republican compared to about 1,100 Republicans and Independents joining the Democratic Party.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that the Democratic Party is losing ground throughout Pennsylvania, and even in Philadelphia,” PA SRCC Comms Director Michael Straw stated. “President Biden and the Democratic Party have doubled-down on failed policies that have led to failing schools, increased crime, and sky-rocketing inflation. Their out-of-touch agenda will cost them at the ballot box, and very likely cost them a seat in the State Senate on May 17th.”
This news should have Philadelphia Democrats concerned for their 5th Senate District Special Election candidate Jimmy Dillon. What was once a safe Democrat seat is very competitive leading up to the May 17th Special Election. These trends could put more state legislative seats in Philadelphia in play for years to come.
